Shannen Doherty has sadly died at the age of 53 after a long health battle.
"It is with a heavy heart that I confirm the passing of actress Shannen Doherty. On Saturday, July 13, she lost her battle with cancer after many years of fighting the disease," the actress' longtime publicist Leslie Sloane confirmed to PEOPLE on Sunday, June 14.
"The devoted daughter, sister, aunt and friend was surrounded by her loved ones as well as her dog, Bowie. The family asks for their privacy at this time so they can grieve in peace," Sloane continued.
The actress, who was known for her roles in Beverly Hills 90210, was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015.
In 2017, Shannen revealed her breast cancer had returned after going into remission in a heartbreaking Instagram post.
Shannen found fame as Brenda Walsh on the original Beverly Hills, 90210, which premiered in October 1990.
After leaving the show after the fourth season in 1994, she revisited the character with several guest appearances on the 2008 reboot of 90210.
Her acting career didn't end there as she was later cast in Charmed as Prue Halliwell, the oldest of three sisters who are witches.
Along with starring in the series, she also directed several episodes before departing the show at the end of the third season in 2001.
