Richard Osman has revealed he could cost the makers of The Wheel "millions" after breaking an important rule on the BBC show. The 53-year-old will be seen on screens as one of the show's celebrity experts when the series returns later this year, but it's likely that some of his spinning scenes will be cut to avoid a hefty payout.

Returning to his podcast after filming for the show last week, Richard discussed his experience and answered questions from fans who wanted to know more about how it is filmed. As the chat with his co-star Marina Hyde unfolded, the Pointless host had nothing but praise for the show's presenter Michael McIntyre, branding hosting skills a "masterclass".

He shared: "He's so brilliant, he's brilliant with the punters, he's brilliant with the celebrity experts. He absolutely drives that show through. You need constant energy on that show and he just is incredible."

Richard also praised the show's composer Paul Farrer, but went on to insist that he may owe him and the show an apology after breaking a vital rule. He continued to share: "The Wheel music is absolutely amazing.

"The one thing they said was, 'Don't sing along with the lyrics of the songs when you go round because they can't use it if you're mouthing the lyrics'. I mouthed along to every single one, I'm not sure if they can use it, I absolutely couldn't help myself."

In response, Marina laughed at the fact he could be the "£300,000 guest", to which he added: "It would literally cost them millions, but it was really a lovely experience."

Express.co.uk has contacted a representative for producers Hungry McBear and the BBC for comment.

During the episode of his The Rest Is Entertainment podcast, Richard also shared that a celebrity who was on the panel with him had to be replaced at the last minute, due to the motion of the wheel causing them nausea.

As seen on television, the contestant at the centre of The Wheel chooses a category they want to take on, in the hope of winning a life-changing sum of money.

To help them do so, they are teamed with a celebrity expert on the panel, which is chosen by a high-energy spin of the wheel.

Richard shared: "They were nauseous, it spins pretty quick. It's not SAS, are you tough enough? But, it's not far off!"

Host Michael has previously admitted that certain celebrities had been put off signing up for the show due to the spinning, with some claiming they had vertigo.

He reportedly told Stuff: “There’s no vertigo! I had to keep telling them that it is a flat spinning wheel, like a turntable.

"It’s not a Ferris wheel. But when I was mentioning it to various people, they’d be like, ‘Oh, I’m frightened of heights’.

“I ran into David Walliams and he just kept saying, ‘Will my head get cut off?’

"I said, ‘You don’t understand what I’m trying to explain to you. It’s just a round circle, like a massive tea cup’.”

The Wheel is expected to return to BBC One in the autumn.
