Bake Off: Paul Hollywood calls himself 'Master Baker'

Some show secrets have been spilled by a Great British Bake Off cast member as judge Paul Hollywood shared what really happens to all of the leftover cakes.

The Channel 4 show judge carried out a question and answer session with his followers on Instagram. He reposted one of the questions that he was asked along with a picture of him and presenter Prue Leith as they were surrounded by masses of yummy cakes and sweet treats.

He was asked: "On the Great British Bake Off, what do you do with the cake that's left?" Paul explained that it is unlikely to go to waste as he replied: "We have a large crew..."

Paul, 54, is set to return as a Bake Off judge in series 15 on Channel 4 this summer. The US show also has Paul as a judge and made him a star on the other side of the Atlantic. However, it remains to be seen whether Bake Off will return once more to C4 next year when their current deal with creators Love Productions runs out.

In the meantime, while waiting for the latest series to begin, Paul has been awarded an MBE. Posting to his Instagram about receiving the accolade, he wrote: "Doesn’t happen every day! Having my few moments with Princess Royal, I’m very chuffed as you can probably see, my family and I had a great time at Windsor Castle x."

While at Windsor Castle, picking up his award, the baker revealed that Princess Anne, who has an especial penchant for Chelsea buns, would be the perfect candidate to appear on Great British Bake Off.

He admitted that he's always been fond of her, as he celebrated the success of his "global brand". Speaking to PA, he said: "I met her a few years ago at Buckingham Palace when the (then) Duke of Edinburgh wasn’t very well.

"We were all with members of the royal family and I just happened to be there with Princess Anne, so to see her again today was fantastic."

He shared a snippet from their conversation, revealing: "She did say ‘baking is so integral to the DNA of us all. We love the smell’." He replied: "Absolutely, I grew up with the smell!"

He added: I think she’s particularly fond of Chelsea buns. I promised her some, so I put myself on the spot there."

Paul has come from humble beginnings, starting off as a baker in his father's small business, before going on to become head baker at hotels both in Britain and abroad. It wasn't until his Bake Off success that he became a celebrated household name.
