Ruth Jones has joked she sometimes finds her Gavin and Stacey co-creator James Corden is like an 'annoying little brother'.

The pair starred together for three series of the BAFTA Award-winning sitcom, which is set to return for a final episode this Christmas, more than five years after a cliffhanger ending.

Since then, Corden has gone on to crack the US, presenting The Late Late Show from 2015 to 2023 and acting in Hollywood films.

Ruth and James met over 24 years ago on the set of Fat Friends before striking up their hugely successful friendship.

Speaking to Yours, she said: "There's a 12-year age gap so I'm the bossy older sister and he is the annoying younger brother. We have a huge love for each other.

"We can get on each other's nerves but we'll defend each other till the cows come home."

Gavin and Stacey first ran between 2007 and 2010, returning for two Christmas specials, with the second in 2019 breaking records and becoming the most-watched comedy in 17 years.

Since her debut as Nessa in the BBC sitcom, Ruth has landed her own chat show, as well as creating and starring in Stella, a programme she wrote with producer husband David Peet.

She is currently writing her fourth novel, which she hopes will be out next year, and has recently returned to her stage roots.

The 57-year-old has been performing as Mother Superior in Sister Act: The Musical.

She described the musical an 'opportunity of a lifetime' but admits she almost rejected the idea of treading the boards because she 'just wasn't confident'.

Ruth admits the scariest part of performing in Sister Act was the singing. However, she admits she has now reached the stage where she 'just enjoys' herself.

Having dabbled in stage and screen, Ruth says she isn't sure which she prefers, but says she 'loves making people laugh'.

Ruth and David, who have been married for 25 years, formed production company Tidy Productions together.

The star is step-mother to his three children and says she is 'Nanny Ruth' to David's granddaughter.

Ahead of her 58th birthday in September, the star has signed up for the Cardiff 10k to raise money for charity.

Having ran the race 10 years ago, she says she wants to do it again, but accepts the chances of achieving that 'are slim'.
