Strictly Come Dancing's Tess Daly makes 'retirement' plea to Vernon Kay in new post

Strictly Come Dancing's Tess Daly has been married to BBC Radio 2 presenter Vernon Kay for over 20 years.

Strictly Come Dancing's Tess Daly gave fans an insight into her weekend with husband Vernon Kay when she posted a sweet snap to her 867,000 Instagram followers. However, the image was also accompanied by a retirement request.

The couple, who have been married for over 20 years, donned a retro look for the photo, which Tess revealed was for a friend's birthday party. Vernon was wearing a navy zip-up tracksuit top and a bucket hat while Tess looked stunning with subtle makeup and a high-side plait accessorised with large plastic circular earrings.

Although they both seemed to be enjoying themselves the star didn't appear to be a fan of the throwback fashions. She captioned the post: "Back to the 80’s for a friends birthday celebration this weekend retiring the side braid and bucket hat now @vernonkay."

Her followers were more enamoured of the couple's look than she was and took to the comments to compliment the TV beauty. @wendyedgarx gushed: "Tess you look amazing beautiful couple."

@magoosmum joked: "The 80s were not that beautiful!" @beverley.small.7 commented: "I think you both look fab! No better style than the 80s."

@susiemay74 observed: "Vernon can rock the bucket. You both look fab." @simonfoxyfowler jested: "You've let Vern Dress Himself again,,,,,, LOL." (sic)

Meanwhile, @zakwalton requested: "Side braid for strictly 24!"

The Strictly comment was timely as the BBC made a huge lineup announcement today (June 10).

They confirmed the show will return this autumn with Tess and Claudia Winkleman once again at the helm.

The judging panel remains the same with Shirley Ballas as head judge alongside Motsi Mabuse, Craig Revel-Horwood and Anton Du Beke.

In news that is sure to delight fans it was revealed Amy Dowden is one of the returning dancers. She had missed competing on Strictly last year after she was diagnosed with stage three breast cancer.

Alongside Amy the rest of the 2024 professional dancers are Dianne Buswell, Nadiya Bychkova, Graziano Di Prima, Karen Hauer, Katya Jones, Neil Jones, Nikita Kuzmin, Gorka Marquez, Luba Mushtuk, Jowita Przystal, Johannes Radebe, Kai Widdrington, Nancy Xu, Carlos Gu, Lauren Oakley, Michelle Tsiakkas and Vito Coppola.

Notable by his absence is Giovanni Pernice who has been at the centre of complaints from a number of his former celebrity partners.
