The Grand Tour's James May 'forced to axe his own show' due to unexpected reason

James May has reportedly been left with no choice but to axe his hit show Oh Cook but there's a very unusual reason as to why he has had to do so.

James May introduces his new YouTube channel

James May has hung up his cooking hat and apron and thrown the towel in when it comes to his popular cooking show Oh Cook - because he is simply just too good.

The Top Gear alum was a cooking novice when he first started filming his Prime Video series, which documented his culinary journey.

And it seems all that practice has paid off as James is now an accomplished chef - even going on to release a best-selling cookery book off the back of his series.

After realising he can now cook, he thinks the novelty has worn off and has reportedly decided to shift his focus to other TV opportunities.

A source told The Sun: “The whole idea behind the show was James being a clueless cook and learning on the job.

“It was a totally fresh concept that viewers lapped up, as usually cooking series are presented by professional chefs," they went on to explain.

And sadly after two seasons, "James is now quite a good cook, so it’s not a gag he can continue to flog.”

The first Oh Cook! series landed on the streaming giant back in 2020 and the title is a play on his famous catchphrase Oh C**k! used during his time hosting his motoring series.

Each episode saw him learning the basics of how to cook up a particular type of cuisine or meals, including a roast dinner and a curry.

The second series, which debuted last May, saw James take it up a notch as viewers watched him try his hand at French classics and vegan dishes, as well as knocking up the food for a Seventies dinner party.

The series was so successful that the accompanying book, titled Oh Cook! 60 easy recipes that any idiot can make, featuring dishes created in the series became his most popular book to date.

James' cookbook even went on to outsell his books on cars, wine and toys — subjects in which he would consider himself a genuine expert.

Despite waving goodbye to his cooking show, James will maintain a presence on Prime Video, who also air his successful travelogue series.

He will also get back to doing what he does best with his fellow motorheads Jeremy Clarkson and Richard Hammond towards the end of next year when they return with their final Grand Tour special in Zimbabwe.

Oh Cook! seasons one and two is available to stream on Amazon Prime Video.
