Dick Strawbridge has revealed his wife Angel gave him an ultimatum on having a baby after he suggested ending their relationship due to the long-distance in the early stages of them dating being too much. The Escape to the Chateau pair didn't have it easy in the beginning as Angel, 46, lived in London while Dick, 64, was based in Cornwall at the time.

The Channel 4 stars first met at a party through their shared agent and Dick was taken by Angel's smile and immediately realised there was a connection between them.

After realising the long-distance relationship would be too much for them, Dick suggested they call it quits and told Angel to find somebody else to marry and have children with.

But Angel had already decided she wanted Dick as her life partner and the pair decided to stay together and start trying for a baby.

Dick told The Times: "After spending Christmas together we knew we had to have the conversation. I said: 'Damn, girl, this is wonderful, but we really have to think about ending this.

"You’ve got to go find a young man, get married, have babies.' My children were all grown-up and the sensible thing would have been for her to find somebody else, but she said she wanted me."

"That was the acknowledgment we were going to have a family. And soon," he told the aforementioned publication.

"Angela gave me a calendar with 'Impregnate me by this date' written on it and, being efficient as we are, we were seven months ahead of our target having Arthur and Dorothy."

The couple moved to France in 2015 and purchased the Chateau de la Motte Husson in Pays de la Loire.

The Channel 4 show saw the pair transform the majestic property from a building that needed plenty of work into their home.

The duo had made the decision to relocate their young family, consisting of the pair and their two children, Arthur, 10, and seven-year-old Dorothy, from their two-bed flat in Essex.

They moved to the French region Martigné-sur-Mayenne and purchased the derelict 45-bedroom property at the bargain price of £280,000.

Escape to the Chateau lasted nine seasons, with the final series airing on October 30, 2022, in the UK.
