The star of the smash-hit Netflix series has spilled the beans on his surprising departure from Hollywood for a fresh professional path.

Dylan Minnette, who shot to fame with his standout role as Clay Jensen in the critically acclaimed 2017 drama 13 Reasons Why, graced our screens for four riveting seasons.

Fast forward two years post-finale in 2020, and the 27-year-old talent appeared in a string of projects.

He made waves in the edge-of-your-seat thriller Scream and starred alongside Amanda Seyfried in the gripping miniseries The Dropout, both hitting screens in 2022.

Yet, despite riding high on a wave of success, Minnette, a seasoned actor since childhood, has opted to hang up his Hollywood hat in pursuit of different dreams.

During an intimate chat on the Zach Sang Show, a YouTube channel, the American actor opened up about his decision to take a step back from the glitz and glamour of Hollywood, despite reaching the zenith of his acting career in 2017.

He confessed: "I was fortunate to find success in [acting].

"I was on 13 Reasons Why and it was really popular and definitely reached a peak in what I've had in acting. But it also started to feel like a bit of a job.

"And I was in a very fortunate position, it was always fun for me, always really inspiring, but then it was just starting to feel like just a job."

His revelation continued as he expressed his current focus on his alternative rock ensemble Wallows.

The band began their musical journey releasing tracks independently in 2017 before signing the dotted line with Atlantic Records a year later.

The actor formed a musical group with his pals in 2011, showcasing his vocal and guitar skills alongside Braeden Lemasters, who also sings and plays guitar, while Cole Preston juggles between the guitar and drums.

He expressed his commitment to music, saying: "I feel like I'm in a position now where I can just kind of like do that [music] for a while and get this the farthest it can be."

Emphasising the dedication required, he stated: "The only way that's gonna happen is if I put my 100% time and energy into it and take it very seriously and show the world that we all take this very seriously."

However, Minnette hasn't ruled out a return to acting, hinting at a potential future on-screen presence.

"I do feel like I have something to give, and that's probably acting. ... I feel like I'm starting to feel inspiration for that again," he revealed.

He concluded by suggesting a balance between his two passions: "At some point, when we've fulfilled our Wallows duties and we're all ready to take a break as a band, that's when I'll have the perfect inspiration to do something."
