Martin Kemp spills reason wife Shirlie 'won't' be at son Roman's future wedding
Spandau Ballet star Martin Kemp and Wham! legend Shirlie Kemp married in a private ceremony back in 1998 and believe their son Roman Kemp will do the same.
Martin Kemp has claimed his son Roman Kemp will forgo tradition and opt to get hitched in a private ceremony in the future. The singer also said he believed neither he nor his wife, Shirlie Kemp, would receive invitations to the betrothal.
In a new interview, the 62-year-old has opened up about his children’s love lives and his desire to become a grandfather in the future. However, the Spandau Ballet icon said he isn’t “chasing” his 34-year-old daughter Harley Moon Kemp or son Roman, 31, for children.
Speaking to Hello! Magazine, Martin said: “If it [being a grandfather] happened tomorrow, I would love it, absolutely love it. "But I won't be chasing them – if it happens, it happens. That's their choice."
Shirlie, 61, has also discussed her children’s relationships and has revealed she often lends them sage advice for tackling love. She told the publication that she advises Harley to be “chased” rather than become the chaser and has told Roman that he needs to be nice to his partner.
Neither of Martin and Shirlie’s children are engaged nor have they had children - two facts the latter says she isn’t “bothered” about. “I think the world is a scary place,” she explained.
“But if my kids get married, I want to be there." However, her bass-playing spouse believes that both he and his wife of 35 years may lose their invitations in the post.
"I can tell you, you won't be," he told his wife. "Roman will do exactly the same thing [as us].”
Martin’s reference is to his and Shirlie’s private ceremony in 1998 which was held away from the limelight in St Lucia.
He added that if his son does want to go away to get married then he and his other half have “no right” to be heartbroken.
The One Show presenter Roman was previously in a relationship with neuroscientist Anne-Sophie Flury. However, reports claimed that the pair broke up last summer after three years of dating.

The star - who recently announced he was stepping down from the Capital FM Breakfast show after 10 years at the helm - has previously been candid about his hopes for the future.
Appearing on Steven Bartlett’s Diary of a CEO podcast in 2022, Roman said: “Women that have their life plan and are busier, that attracts me more than anything.
“You look at the girls I’ve dated in the past, they’re girls that are doing their own thing and they’re [expletive] good at it.”
He added that one of the reasons he ”doesn’t really date English girls” is because he “loves” his significant other to not know what he does for a living.
