Carol Vorderman 'in tears' over BBC Breakfast as she shares special connection to guest
Carol Vorderman was feeling emotional this morning after a BBC Breakfast guest shared a huge cancer update.
Former Countdown presenter Carol Vorderman has revealed she has a special connection to this morning’s BBC Breakfast guests. The star admitted she was “in tears” after watching Hughie, who was 11 years old when he was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia, give a health update on the BBC talk show.
Carol presents the annual Pride of Britain Awards, which sees some of the country’s most inspirational individuals be recognised for their incredible achievements. In 2021, best pals Freddie and Hughie raised more than £200,000 after Hughie was diagnosed with cancer.
Taking to X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, Carol revealed that she had come to know the young boys quite well, even spending time camping with their families. She shared a video of the pair addressing BBC Breakfast viewers with her 957,900 followers.
“In tears watching Hughie & Freddie @BBCBreakfast,” she wrote. “Hughie has had more than 3 years of leukemia treatment at Royal Manchester Children's Hospital.
“They won a @PrideOfBritain in 2021 for fundraising. We all had a night down in Devon camping. Amazing lads & families.
“Hughie will ring the cancer free bell later this morning,” she dded with five heart emojis. “Are you watching too?” (sic)
Carol shared a post from the account Hughie & Freddie’s 100km, which is run by Freddie’s mum Sarah.
“Tomorrow is the day we have all been hoping for since Sept 2020,” the post read.
“Hughie’s ringing the bell to mark the end of his cancer treatment at RMCH live on BBC Breakfast from 6am.
“Breakfast viewers have shown them so much support, it will be incredible to share this moment!”
