On Thursday morning, it was confirmed that TV icon Jerry Springer died in his Chicago home following a cancer diagnosis a few months ago.
Jerry’s untimely death comes less than six months after he wowed The Masked Singer viewers with his unexpected skills.
This would tragically become the presenter’s final television appearance, despite fronting nearly 5,000 episodes of his own notorious talk show over three decades.
The talk show legend was revealed as the Beetle on the Fox game show and was eliminated last October.
While the judges sang his praises, Jerry’s infamous sense of humour shone as he joked: “When I sing, people get involved because they have to guess where the notes were supposed to have been.
"It's like interactive."
The talk show host dazzled judges and viewers alike with a sultry and smooth rendition of Frank Sinatra’s The Way You Look Tonight.
When judge Nicole Scherzinger applauded Jerry, saying he had the voice of “a natural crooner” like Frank himself, the presenter brutally hit back: “I don’t know what to say but all my life I’ve been looking for a woman with no taste.”
The audience, and other judges, erupted in chants of ‘Jerry’, a common reaction on his own talk show.
Host Nick Cannon questioned why the multi-Emmy-Award-winning star would join a show like The Masked Singer, the then-78-year-old replied: “There’s so many serious things going on in the world so to be able to do something that’s just fun and silly, I really appreciate.”

A spokesperson for the Springer family told WLWT shortly after the news of Jerry’s tragic death was revealed: “Jerry’s ability to connect with people was at the heart of his success in everything he tried whether that was politics, broadcasting or just joking with people on the street who wanted a photo or a word.”
"He’s irreplaceable and his loss hurts immensely, but memories of his intellect, heart and humour will live on."
The presenter catapulted to fame with the start of the Jerry Springer Show in 1991, which grew to unfathomable notoriety over its 27-year-long run, despite being ranked as the Worst Show in the History of Television by TV Guide.
Aside from the on-screen chaos his show invoked, Jerry was notoriously grateful and humbled by the turn his life had taken because of it, telling the Cincinnati Enquirer in 2011: “With all the joking I do with the show, I’m fully aware and thank God every day that my life has taken this incredible turn because of this silly show.”
