Jonathan Majors, 33, was arrested on March 25 following an alleged domestic dispute with a 30-year-old woman. Police say they responded to a call at around 11.14am on Saturday morning at an apartment in Manhattan, New York City.

Police told Express.co.uk that the call led them to the scene of a domestic dispute between a 30-year-old female and 33-year-old male, who has been identified as Jonathan.

It also noted: "The victim informed police she was assaulted. Officers placed the 33-year-old male into custody without incident."

The New York Police Department said in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter that they were able to arrest the actor on the scene after a “preliminary investigation” as they “felt there was enough evidence for probable cause”.

The woman sustained minor injuries to her head and neck and was taken to a nearby hospital and is currently in stable condition, police told Express.co.uk.

Jonathan was arrested on charges of strangulation, assault and harassment and is no longer in police custody.

On Sunday morning, less than 12 hours after he was arrested, the actor was spotted leaving a courthouse in New York City according to the Daily Mail.

The actor was covered up with a baseball hat, knee-length coat and surgical mask and sources told the outlet that his companion tried to use her umbrella to shield him from the cameras.

Jonathan’s criminal defence lawyer Priya Chaudhry told Express.co.uk a day after the incident that the actor is “completely innocent” in this situation.

She expects the charges against Jonathan to “be dropped imminently”, adding that his team are gathering evidence to present to the District Attorney which includes video footage, witness testimony and written statements from the woman recanting her allegations.

The statement added: “Unfortunately, this incident came about because this woman was having an emotional crisis, for which she was taken to a hospital yesterday.

“The NYPD is required to make an arrest in these situations, and this is the only reason Mr. Majors was arrested.”

On Thursday, the lawyer told Express.co.uk that Jonathan had been the one to call 911 during the dispute “out of concern for the woman’s mental health”.

The up-and-coming actor has quickly become one of the most sought-after names in Hollywood in recent months, starring in both Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and Creed III as the antagonist.

Earlier this month the father-of-one made his Oscars debut despite not being a nominee.

Jonathan took to the stage, joined by his Creed III co-star Michael B. Jordan, as they presented the award for Best Cinematography to All Quiet on the Western Front.
