You’ve got to be kidding
Celebrating country life, fans queued for meet and greets with the BBC presenters but Charlotte admitted she was not initially on board with the idea of the live event.
The BBC Radio 4 Farming Today presenter revealed her first thoughts was “you’ve got to be kidding” when the event was pitched to her.
Speaking exclusively to Express.co.uk, Charlotte mused: “I thought you’ve got to be kidding.
“I was trying to describe it [Countryfile Live] to someone and I said it’s like the BBC show in 3D.”
She continued: “They asked ‘How is this going to work?’
“I said it’ll be like a country show, and a bit like this, and a bit like that but I said it’s not going to work.”
She finished: “It shows what I know.”
Despite Charlotte’s initial apprehension, Countryfile Live has become an annual event for the past four years.
According to the Gazette Herald, the event will be returning to Castle Howard in Yorkshire next year.
Meanwhile, the presenter revealed the biggest downsides to working on the BBC programme and said it was largely to do with the weather.
Charlotte spilled: “The weather. But other than that, honestly I’ve been on Countryfile on and off for 25 years so something keeps me coming back. It’s an absolute joy of a programme.”
She is one of the long-standing presenters on the BBC series of Countryfile but exited the show in 2009.
The mother-of-two returned in 2014 as an occasional reporter delving into the issues which surround rural life.
Speaking about her time on the show, the TV regular admitted she doesn’t have any regrets since being on the programme but added that she has often made “mistakes”.
Charlotte said: “There’s mistakes I’ve made. Like something goes out on television and you're like ‘Oh I did that wrong’.
“Those really bug me. So I’ve definitely made mistakes. I don’t think there’s anything I really regret.”
Countryfile airs Sundays at 7pm on BBC One.
