Debbie McGee: Strictly star left red-faced after huge blunder amid fears of being 'sacked'
DEBBIE MCGEE, who appeared on Strictly Come Dancing last year, was left red-faced when she referred to her colleague by the wrong name on BBC Radio Berkshire yesterday.
Debbie McGee makes hilarious blunder with travel reporter
Debbie McGee, 59, was introducing the travel segment on the Bill Buckley show, when she addressed reporter Barry Lewis incorrectly.
Introducing the travel, she said: “There was lots going on earlier this morning but it seemed to be getting better at half past one, what’s happening now Russell?”
Like a true professional, Barry continued his piece on the latest travel updates and didn’t correct her, but Debbie was quick to point out her error.
After he finished, she immediately said: “I apologise, you’re not Russell I changed your name it’s Barry Lewis.
“It’s just gone so quickly today, I was thinking it was still Russell, anyway speak to you later Barry.”
The blunder comes after she was caught singing live on-air and joked with listeners she could get the sack if they switch off.
After playing M People’s hit Search For The Hero, she was unaware she could be heard singing along.
Belting out a lyric, she was heard singing “Search!” before quickly stopping.
She hesitantly addressed her singing, telling her listeners: “Yet again I wasn’t singing along when Marie put my mic up or you would have switched off or changed stations.
“That would have been terrible, I would get the sack if you did that."
She then begged: “So please don’t turn off.”
Debbie’s blunder isn’t the first time she has been heard singing along to the hits.
The radio host had just finished playing Simon & Garfunkel’s song Homeward Bound when she was caught by surprise.
As the track came to an end, she realised her mic had been on, but the listeners couldn’t hear her sing.
She told listeners: “Oh I didn’t notice my mic was up, did you hear me signing along to that?”
She added: “Well, I’ve got a cheeky producer today - Marie!”
Debbie turned to her colleague giggling and joked: “How dare you, you knew I wasn’t looking that way.”
The former magician’s assistant then admitted she had been singing along.
She said: “Yes, I was singing along. What a lovely, gentle, short song that was.”
The Debbie McGee Show continues on Sunday at 9am on BBC Radio Berkshire.
