If you're considering a staycation for your next getaway, then you're in luck as a new study just offered up a huge dose of inspiration.

New research from Sykes Holiday Cottages has revealed the UK's top 10 most affordable destinations, and a popular seaside resort has taken the top spot. Blackpool has taken the win in the rankings, for a second time. (You can see the full list of destinations below).

Famous for the iconic Blackpool Tower and the spectacular Blackpool Illuminations, this seaside town has been a family favourite for decades. Set along a long promenade lined with Victorian buildings, and with vintage trams zipping along the roads, it still has plenty of historic charm.

One thing that made Blackpool such a popular destination is its long sandy beach, and along the seven-mile stretch of coast there are plenty of spots where you can take a dip. But if it’s a bit cold for you, there’s also Sandcastle Waterpark, home of the UK’s longest indoor roller-coaster water slide, the Master Blaster. The temperature inside is set to nearly 29C, so even in the winter it feels like a tropical getaway.

Blackpool Pleasure Beach is another family-friendly attraction, and Nickelodeon Land in particular will appeal to the youngest guests. It offers themed character events where you can meet favourites such as Spongebob, and a selection of fun and colourful rides. However, for those who prefer adrenaline pumping rides, there are plenty of thrills such as the Big One which has a 235ft drop, or the classic Big Dipper.

Other attractions include the SEA LIFE Blackpool, which has an underwater tunnel where you can see exotic fish up close. There’s also the colourful Victorian North Pier, a seaside classic that has carousels, amusements, and plenty of family fun.

Coming in second on the list of most affordable staycations was Great Yarmouth, another classic seaside town, this time along the Norfolk coast.

Like Blackpool, Great Yarmouth is a family friendly spot, known for its Victorian pier, Pleasure Beach amusement park, and Hippodrome Circus that hosts spectacular shows year-round.

Third and fourth place also went to seaside towns; Skegness and Scarborough, but surprisingly rounding off the top five was Liverpool. Recently named one of the UK’s best city breaks, Liverpool is packed with things to do from exploring the city’s historic Royal Albert Dock to visiting the Beatles Story Museum where you can learn about the iconic band.

Take one of the Mersey Ferries and go sightseeing on the waterfront, then head to the Maritime Museum where you can learn about Liverpool’s history as a port city and the industry that shaped the area.
