The UK is home to over 1,500 beaches, with some seeing hundreds, if not thousands, of visitors everyday.

And while some seaside have remained untouched for those looking for a relaxing day in nature, others have been transformed with piers, arcades, and other attractions for thrill-seekers and family's looking for fun days outs.

The Seaside Heritage Network has now announced its Bucket and Spade List of the Top Ten favourite seaside places and experiences, with one location that's "quintessentially seaside" taking the top spot, as voted for by the public.

In at number one is New Palace and Adventureland in New Brighton. Reacting to this win, David Wilkie, owner and manager of the New Palace and Adventureland said: "All the fun of the fair is one phrase that reflects the Wilkie family's commitment and dedication to providing New Brighton with an unforgettable attraction.

Voters were also complimentary of the attraction, with one commenting: "I have been visiting the New Palace since I was 5yrs old & now take my grandchildren who love it, the building is iconic & very little has changed in 65 years it is part of New Brighton’s heritage."

While another added: "From an era when New Brighton was the place to be seen. It has everything quintessentially seaside, amusements, ice cream, beach ware, cafés, candyfloss."

New Brighton was closely followed in second place by Ventnor Paddling Pool, Isle of Wight, with voters once again praising its longevity.
