Princess Cruises' Regal Princess to star in ITV fly on the wall documentary
THE cruise ship Regal Princess will be the star of a six-part series airing in March which will reveal what it is like aboard a luxury liner.
The Cruise will follow the lives of the crew and guests as the 3,560-passenger ship sails through northern Europe and Russia.
The documentary will also give a rare insight into the day-to-day roles of the 1,400-multinational crew who keep the ship running smoothly.
More than 20,000 meals a day have to be prepared and the 19-deck ship's 1,800 cabins serviced daily.
Key crew members such as the captain, the hotel manager and head chef share the limelight with some of the ship's more flamboyant guests.
The programme was made by UK documentary makers Wild Pictures, and is not to be confused with last year's ITV series The Cruise Ship, which also featured Princess Cruises.
Tony Roberts, Princess Cruises' vice president UK and Europe, said: "We are delighted to take centre stage for this major new documentary.
"It was fantastic to have every aspect of life on a modern cruise ship captured on film, from behind the scenes with the crew, on stage with the dancers to up on top deck with the ship's guests.
"We're so proud of our ship and crew and can't wait for television viewers to see why."
Paul Hamann, executive producer at Wild Pictures, said: "It was a fascinating experience for our team to be on Regal Princess.
"A cruise ship of this size is like a small floating town, which enabled us to capture an incredibly rich variety of stories and characters from both crew and guests to give a unique insight into life at sea on one of the world's biggest cruise ships."
Princess Cruises has a fleet of 18 ships and carries 1.7 million guests a year all over the world.
