This is why you should NEVER order a vegetarian meal on a plane
PASSENGERS ordering a vegetarian meal should think again as it could prevent them from being offered this amazing opportunity.
Choosing a vegetarian meal on a flight could prevent you from getting this amazing opportunity
Plane food is rarely anything extraordinary and is known for being rather bland and tasteless.
Many travellers opt for a vegetarian in-flight meal instead of the standard meal because specially ordered options can be better quality as they aren't mass-produced.
What many holidaymakers may not realise is that by choosing a vegetarian meal, they could be blocked from an amazing opportunity on the flight.
If ordering a vegetarian meal, or any dish that isn't part of the standard options, it could reduce the chances of getting a flight upgrade.
If there are seats available in business class then a passenger flying in economy class could be lucky enough to get bumped up.
However, if they have chosen a vegetarian meal, they may not get upgraded as the plane is less likely to have a vegetarian option in first class.
Therefore they're more likely to look for another person flying with a normal meal option.
Of course, for those choosing the vegetarian meal due to intolerances or ethics, it is an unavoidable option.

Because you’ve got a dietary requirement, they might not be able to cater for you if they upgrade you
Nik Loukas, a former flight attendant with Qantas, told Business Insider UK: “If there’s a special meal request in your booking, the airline won’t even look at you [for an upgrade].
“Because you’ve got a dietary requirement, they might not be able to cater for you if they upgrade you.”
Therefore it can be much safer to stick to the standard option of meals.
Some plane food, even in economy, can still be a delicious option, depending on the airline.

Nik Loukas also documented the best airline meals he has experienced when flying around the world.
He travels over 180,000km each year in search of the latest in-flight meal options.
Turkish Airlines was one of his favourite in-flight meals, even in economy class.
Others that made the list for fine dining on a plane included Scandinavian AIrlines, Air Europa and Singapore Airlines.
