TRAVELLERS travelling with just hand luggage can take some of these surprising items through airport security.
These shocking items are allowed in hand luggage when going through airport security
Airport security has become increasingly strict due to recent terrorism fears.
From 100ml liquids to bag searches, the tighter regulations mean much less can now be taken through.
It can also mean much longer queues when going through security due to confusing new rules and regulations.
Yet some travellers will be surprised at some of the items that are still allowed through airport security in their hand luggage.
Another shocking item is a lighter, as these are also allowed to be brought onboard
Razors
Razors are one of the most shocking things that are still allowed through in hand luggage.
Fixed blade disposable razors are permitted in hand luggage yet razors with detachable heads are not. Nail clippers and small scissors that have blades less than 6cm are also allowed in.
Lighters
Another shocking item is a lighter, as these are also allowed to be brought onboard.
However, travellers are only allowed one per person and must be kept on the person at all times whilst counting as a ‘liquid’ and must be included in the liquids bag.
Items including razors, empty bottles and lighters are all allowed through airport security
Empty water bottles
Whilst not shocking, another surprising item to go through are empty water bottles.
This may seem somewhat baffling, but most airports have taps on the other side of security.
So it means that travellers can save money on expensive bottles in the airport or on the plane and can instead fill it up as they go through.
Although if it has any liquid in it, they are advised to either drink it or throw the bottle away.
