The cheapest holiday hotspot for a beer costing £1.43 found - beating Algarve and Crete

Travellers tend to look at the cost of things such as food and accommodation when it comes to choosing the next destination. This time it is beer.

TravelSupermarket has looked at the ideal destination for beer lovers with one destination costing just £1.43 for a bottle of beer at a beach bar. The team looked at popular holiday hotspots across Europe and north Africa including Greece, Portugal and Spain to determine the results.

However, to put TravelSupermarket’s research into practice, Chelsea Dickenson headed to Catalonia in search of the cheapest glasses of prosecco and pints of beer, documenting her findings for TravelSupermarket.

Chelsea Dickenson, Cheap Holiday Expert, said: "When TravelSupermarket revealed their study on the cheapest places to find prosecco - I was over the moon! In the last few years, we've really seen prices go up in many destinations and so it was a great reminder that there are still plenty of bargains out there so that we can really treat ourselves when we're on our next holiday.

"With the results under my belt, I headed off to Tarragona in Costa Dorada to see just how easy it was to find sparkling wine for £3.01 and I was delighted to discover it was so, so easy!

“Literally the first bar that I walked past had Cava for just £2.96 and there was a lot of choice for places offering a glass of fizz for a similar price. The cheapest price I found was just £2.10 a glass and the best bit? The measures are massive everywhere. Honestly, I think it's at least a glass and a half versus what we get served in the UK!"

So where is the cheapest place to find a pint of beer?

TravelSupermarket found Egypt is the ideal destination for beer lovers, costing just £1.43 for a bottle of beer, making it the cheapest destination for a cold one.

Close behind is the Dominican Republic (£1.98) and Antalya in Turkey (£2.08). On the other end of the spectrum, Dubai ranks as the most expensive beach bar beer, with prices soaring to £9.62 per bottle. Corfu and the Algarve follow as the next most expensive, both at £4.30 per bottle.

Elsewhere, holidaymakers looking to add a little sparkle to their trip, Spain’s Costa del Sol and Costa Dorada, offer the most affordable glass of prosecco or local sparkling wine at just £3.01, with Paphos in Cyprus close behind at £3.87 per glass.

Interestingly, while Egypt leads in beer affordability, a glass of bubbly will set consumers back £13.35 per glass. TravelSupermarket noted that a traveller’s drink of choice could influence decisions regarding holiday destinations.
