Thomas Cook has called all holidays to Sharm El-Sheikh amid terror threats
Thomas Cook holidays have cancelled all holidays to Sharm El-Sheikh amid rising terror fears.
The company have decided to stop all prearranged flights and stays at the resort town immediately after taking the Foreign and Commonwealth Office's (FCO) advice on board.
The cancellation affects holidays from winter 2017 season up until summer 2018.
Over 300 people have been affected by this yet Thomas Cook is urging travellers to get in touch to organise alternative trips or full refunds.
We have removed Sharm El-Sheikh in Egypt from our Winter 2017/18 and Summer 2018 holiday and flight programmes
Regarding their decision, Thomas Cook UK and Ireland Managing Director Chris Mottershead took to the website to issue a statement.
"We have removed Sharm El-Sheikh in Egypt from our Winter 2017/18 and Summer 2018 holiday and flight programmes," the statement reads. "The UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office continue to advise against travel to Sharm El-Sheikh airport, and we have no plans to reintroduce a programme to Sharm until after that advice changes."
This comes in light of recent upset expressed by the Egyptian government after the UK refused to cancel the flight ban for other airlines to the resort town.
The countries tourism has suffered as a result, as visiting tourists have fallen from 14.7 million to 5.4 million in 2016, according to the United Nations World Tourism Organisation.
Sharm el-Sheikh has suffered since tourism has declined in Egypt
Since 2015, The FCO have indicated that flying to Sharm El-Sheikh airport is ill-advised.
It was introduced after the tragic plane incident in 2015 after a Russian passenger plane was brought down after just leaving the airport, killing all 224 people on board.
The warning by the FCO has been in place ever since, having not been changed due to the constant threat that it is under.
Other countries including Russia have also stated that they will not be returning to Egypt before 2018.
Thomas Cook trims guidance due to terror attacks and Turkey coup
Flights to the resort town in Egypt have dwindled, with Thomas Cook the recent airline to cancel
The five flights per week were introduced by the company in the hope that the terror threat would reduce.
