Oh the irony! Winning image of Britain’s ultimate sea view showcases WORST of UK weather
A PICTURE of stormy seas shrouded in darkness has been voted the best sea view in Britain.
The winners of the Shipwrecked Mariners' Society competition have been announced
The Shipwrecked Mariners' Society has just revealed the winner of its esteemed annual photography competition.
Almost 800 entries flooded in from around the country, showcasing the best of UK seascapes.
The charity was on the lookout for exceptional images of ships, harbours, ports and wrecks.
David Lyon submitted the winning entry, an image ironically titled ‘Nice Day for a Cruise’.

The striking photograph shows a ferry in Newhaven, East Sussex, as it forges through raging waters with waves crashing around it.
Chief executive of the Shipwrecked Mariners' Society Malcolm Williams said they were searching for the entry that best represented the UK’s connection to the sea.
He explained: “We created the competition with the aim of finding an image that best portrays our country's enduring relationship with the sea, in order to raise awareness of the Society's work.
“We have had some outstanding entries from across the UK which not only encapsulate that enduring relationship, but also acted as a platform for people to celebrate their own special piece of our coastline.”

The top prize includes a seven-night cruise for two from Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC).
Other winning entries included Alex M. Iacobet’s ‘Forgotten’, which took out the ships and wrecks category.
The photo features two abandoned ships on a pebbly sea shore.
Rev Dr Richard Hainsworth won the people and the sea category with a picture of a man standing in the sea water by himself titled ‘Solace’.

Now in its fourth year, the prize is judged by a panel of experts including picture and photography editors, the competition encourages both amateur and professional photographers to submit their best work.
The Society is one of the UK’s oldest maritime charities.
