‘This makes it much easier’: Travel experts share tips to get the most space when flying
Whilst most tourists find long haul flights somewhat cramped and uncomfortable, a number of Reddit users have shared tips to make the most out of their trip.
A group of Reddit users have shared a number of tips that can help to make a long-haul flight more comfortable and enjoyable.
Whilst flying can help tourists get to far away destinations quickly and easily, it can sometimes be unpleasant if the flight is more than a few hours.
However, posting to the Reddit group r/travel, the social media user @MickJof asked others to share their flight tips, noting that he always books his seat as soon as possible so he can get an aisle seat.
He advised: “At least I got extra legroom, which is one of the, maybe most obvious, tips. Try to select your seat as soon as possible.
“I also always choose an aisle seat as this makes it much easier to get up and stretch your legs. What are your flying tips?”
Whilst nobody enjoys having to stay in a cramped environment during an overnight flight, one Redditor responded with a way in which passengers can get some sleep without having to recline their seat and annoy the person behind.
They recalled that they once saw someone sleeping with their head on a pillow placed on the tray table, trying it for themselves and finding that it is an easier way to sleep.
They also suggested that it is somewhat easier to get forty winks up in the air when tourists have a window seat as it gives them more space to rest their head.

Another Reddit user noted that tourists who have booked a flight with another person should try to book a window seat and an aisle seat, discouraging others from travelling between them both.
They added: “If [you are] travelling with a partner, book the aisle seat and the window seat. That will leave the middle seat free in most cases.
“If someone comes to the middle seat, you can offer the aisle or window seat to them and sit next to your partner.”
A more unusual bit of advice offered by a Reddit user is to give any neighbours travellers do not know who are taking up too much space a taste of their own medicine.
They continued: “If you feel your space in Economy Class is being invaded by your inconsiderate neighbour, for example, they are manspreading or resting on both armrests (the greatest sin is taking both armrests), don’t be afraid to manspread back, or rest your arm on their arm.
“I’ve found that if you fight back and hold your ground and resist being icked out by touching a stranger they will eventually cave in and reduce their manspread and arm.”
