‘Wonderful’ French city is one of Europe’s most walkable holiday destinations
A pretty city in the south of France is one of Europe's most walkable holiday destinations.
Ready for a holiday? A pretty city in southern France could be the ideal destination for a spring or summer break.
Aix-en-Provence’s elegant pastel buildings make it one of France’s most attractive cities and it’s also extremely walkable.
The city’s main attractions are mostly within walking distance of each other and the Old Town is easy to explore on foot.
Aix-en-Provence is known for its slow and relaxed pace of life so there’s no reason to rush around on a mini-break.
So what is there to see in Aix-en-Provence?
One of France’s top cultural destinations, the city was loved by iconic painter, Paul Cezanne. Tourists will see Aix-en-Provence depicted many times in his paintings.
Head to the artist’s studio, Atelier de Cezanne, to learn more about the artist’s life and process.
Tourists can see some of his paintings as well as other famous artworks at the city’s Musee Granet in the city’s Old Town.

Wandering the streets of Aix-en-Provence’s Old Town is one of best ways to while away the hours in the French city.
A tourist ‘DuncanTCH’ wrote on Tripadvisor: “Wandering around the old streets of any French town is a treat in itself, but doing so in Aix is wonderful. Around each turn there’s another architectural wonder, another marketplace or another charming square to relax.”
The Cours Mirabeau is the city’s main boulevard and it often hosts market stalls selling local goods such as the region’s famous soaps.
Don’t leave without trying a calisson, one of Aix-en-Provence’s tastiest treats. The diamond-shaped delicacy is made from ground almonds, candied melons and orange blossom water.
