Tourist moans about popular UK tourist attraction
A tourist has complained that a popular British attraction is an "overpriced tourist trap". The landmark was featured in a couple of Harry Potter films.
Alnwick Castle, apopular English landmark has been slammed as an “overpriced tourist trap” by tourists on Reddit. .
The castle and country house in Northumberland is a historic Grade I listed building built in the 11th century but has attracted more visitors since it was used as Hogwarts in the first and second Harry Potter films.
A tourist wrote on Reddit: “Ever since Harry Potter it’s become an overpriced tourist trap for people coming on a day trip from Edinburgh. There are better castles that are more scenic and quieter. Plus the number of people who post about it on the internet and tag it as Scotland pains me.”
Another said: "It was a shame that you can't see more of the castle itself and most of the time there was spent trying to avoid the Harry Potter fans. Glad I've been (would gladly do all the castles in the country) but the best part about that visit was the fish and chips. Delicious!"
Alnwick Castle was also used as a filming location in the popular ITV series, Downton Abbey, and many visitors loved their visit to Alnwick, with many raving about the gardens.
'Michael S' wrote on Tripadvisor: "Alnwick Castle stands as a timeless testament to history and an enchanting gateway to the past."
'Maffers' wrote about his experience to the Castle: "I couldn't disagree more. I went and it was expensive, something like £70 for the four of us for gardens and castle (but we could enter for free again any time in the next year, which was no use to me).
"We went into the castle, did the broomstick lessons where Harry Potter had his first one, which was a fantastic laugh. We went to the courtyard and dressed up as knights, got put in the stocks, fought the dragon in the cage. Then went round the labyrinth which was great.
"Then we went and got fish and chips from the old fashioned chippy and went for a walk round the gardens then down to the treehouse. It was expensive, but we spent the entire day there and had a great time."
'JorgiEagle' wrote: "Strong disagree. It’s very interesting if you’ve never been before It’s also the second largest inhabited castle in England, second to Windsor, over 900 years old. All the other castles in the area are in some state of ruins."

If the Castle isn't for you, Alnwick Gardens which sit adjacent to the castle are said to offer an interesting visit.
A local resident said: “I’m from the North East and I don’t think I’ve ever actually been inside Alnwick Castle. In my eyes it’s all about the gardens, especially the poison garden.”
Someone else on Reddit commented: "Just visited last week. The tour around the Poison Garden was fascinating and held my attention. Overall, the whole garden is a really good attraction and worth visiting."
The small but deadly Poison Garden is filled with around 100 toxic plants and could be the UK’s most dangerous garden. Visitors are banned from smelling, touching or tasting the plants but can join a tour to learn more about them.
With a ticket to the gardens, tourists can also explore the Cherry Orchard and the rose garden.
Tourists who want to explore a castle might prefer to visit the childhood home of Anne Boleyn, Hever Castle.
The Castle was recently ranked England’s best while the country’s favourite historic house can be found in Scotland.
