Ireland - 20 flights cancelled
Irish pilots have been on strike for five weeks since their first strike in July.
They announced their plans to strike for the fifth time today as discussions between them and the airline failed to come to an agreement.
Irish pilot union FORSA said in a statement last Thursday: “Fórsa has today (Thursday) given notice that directly-employed Irish-based Ryanair pilots will stage a further one-day strike commencing at 1am on Friday 10 August.”
Problems have escalated between the union and the airline in light of the threat of further strikes in retaliation and the threat of pilot relocation or firing.
Ryanair has cancelled 20 flights to and from Ireland due to this, stating: “As Forsa have called a fifth strike by a small minority, 25 per cent, of our Irish pilots, we regrettably have cancelled just 20 (7 per cent) of our 300 planned flights to/from Ireland next Friday, August 10.”
We apologise to our customers for the disruption these unnecessary strikes will cause
Belgium - 104 flights cancelled
Pilots in Belgium announced their intention to strike on 1 August in solidarity with Irish pilots.
The pilot union BeCa said in a statement that they “call all Ryanair pilots based in Belgium to support their Irish colleagues and to join the strike action that will take place on 10 August”.
Their demands of Ryanair include; to stop the threat of delocalising Dublin crew; for national legislation to be put into place; and the withdrawal of threats against crew members.
This has affected 104 flights to and from Belgium. Ryanair said in a statement: “We have received strike notice from pilot unions in Belgium and Sweden for next Friday, August 10, and have regrettably cancelled 104 to/from Belgium.
“All affected customers have already been notified by email/SMS and will be readily re-accommodated (or refunded) on other Ryanair flights.
“We apologise to our customers for the disruption these unnecessary strikes will cause.”
Sweden - 22 flights cancelled
Swedish pilots announced their intention to strike along with Belgium, with 22 flights to and from the country cancelled.
Pilot union SPF said in a statement: "All proposals from Ryanair that have been shown to the SPF have meant restrictions on how our members are organized and represented, something that is unacceptable to a union.”

Germany - 250 flights cancelled
Yesterday, German pilots announced their intention to strike on the same day, giving just 48 hours notice despite requests for seven days.
Ryanair has cancelled 250 flights to and from Germany due to this.
Martin Locher, president of VC, president of Vereinigung Cockpit said: "We demand improvements in pay and working conditions. "Improvements are inconceivable without an increase in personnel cockpit costs.
“During negotiations Ryanair categorically ruled out any such increases. At the same time, Ryanair has not shown any interest to find solutions. It is only Ryanair, which is responsible for the escalation which has now taken place.”
“Ryanair’s statement. said: “Vereinigung Cockpit (VC) pilot union in Germany have today (8 Aug) called an unnecessary strike next Friday (10 Aug) and we have regrettably been forced to cancel 250 flights to/from Germany out of over 2,400 scheduled flights across Europe next Fri (10 Aug)."
Netherlands - 0 flights cancelled
Dutch pilots announced their intention to strike, however no flights have been cancelled.
Yesterday, the VNV-DALPA union announced that they would “resign for 24 hours to strengthen their collective labour agreement requirements.”
The statement by Ryanair said: “As Ryanair’s pilots have decided to work on Friday 10 August to prevent disruption to our customers travelling on their summer holidays, we are confirming that all of our flights to/from the Netherlands will operate as scheduled on Friday 10 August.
“There will be no cancellations as a result of the unnecessary strike action by the Dutch pilot union (VNV-DALPA) in the Netherlands.
“Ryanair fully respects the right of Dutch pilots to strike but request that we and our customers are given 7 days’ notice by the VNV-DALPA so we can minimise the disruption.”
