UFC 226: Jon Jones taunts Daniel Cormier ahead of Miocic bout, says he won't be the GOAT
UFC 226 - JON JONES has laughed off the notion of Daniel Cormier becoming the greatest mixed martial artist of all time if he beats Stipe Miocic next month.
Cormier meets the UFC's heavyweight champion on July 7 in the main event of UFC 226, which takes place at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
The bout provides the current light-heavyweight champion with the opportunity to become only the second fighter in UFC history to hold two titles simultaneously, a feat which was achieved by Conor McGregor at UFC 205.
Many believe a win over Miocic would well and truly put Cormier in the conversation for the greatest fighter to ever set foot inside the cage.
Jones, Cormier’s bitter rival, doesn't agree with that suggestion and reckons his UFC 182 victory over the Louisiana native discredits him from being considered the greatest of all time.
In response to a video in which Cormier was asked if he should be considered the best MMA fighter of all time with a win over Miocic, Jones tweeted: "What have you done for me lately?
"Let’s just be real and stop asking this question."
He added: "If he’s in the conversation does that make me the motherf*****g man?"
Jones, 30, is currently sitting on the sidelines awaiting punishment for his second anti-doping violation, which he incurred before his UFC 214 grudge match with Cormier, whom he defeated via a devastating third-round TKO.
Jon Jones admits to poking his opponents in the eye
If he’s in the conversation does that make me the motherf*****g man?
And the New York native is chomping at the bit to get back inside the Octagon.
"Man, I can’t wait to get my job back and slap somebody," he said."
Jones' second failed drug test of his career - which resulted in his triumph over Cormier being ruled a no contest - discovered traces of the banned anabolic steroid Turanibol in his bloodstream, which he and his legal team believe entered his system via a tainted supplement.
If the United States Anti-Doping Agency deems that the former light-heavyweight champion intentionally took the prohibited agent, he could be handed a four-year suspension, a sanction which would more than likely end his career.
Jones’ second anti-doping violation resulted in him receiving a £150,000 fine from the California State Athletic Commission and having his license to compete in the state revoked.
The youngest champion in UFC history is adamant he didn’t knowingly take the Turanibol found in his system, telling the commission: "I did not do steroids.
“I swear to my heavenly father I am not wrong."
