Conor McGregor gives first interview since UFC 229, answers Khabib and Mayweather question
CONOR MCGREGOR has given his first interview since his loss to Khabib Nurmagomedov.
UFC: McGregor ‘screaming’ for Khabib rematch says Kavanagh
McGregor made his long-awaited return to the Octagon last month in the main event of UFC 229, which took place at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
His bid to reclaim the lightweight title he was stripped of last April ended in the fourth round of the multi-million pound bout courtesy of a neck crank.
McGregor is keen to have a rematch with his successor at the summit of the lightweight division but is willing to face whoever the UFC brass puts in front of him.
Aside from expressing his desire to avenge his fourth career loss on social media and appearing at a Dallas Cowboys game, McGregor has remained out of the limelight and hasn’t done any media.
However, that recently changed when he did an interview with Entrepreneur magazine, in which he discussed the launch of his Irish whiskey brand, Proper No. 12.
Unfortunately for fight fans, ‘The Notorious’ wasn’t asked about his future or his thoughts on his most recent setback.
He was, however, asked if he’d share a glass of his whiskey with his last two opponents.
And he gave a typical response to the question.
To be honest, neither
“To be honest, neither,” Ireland’s first UFC belt holder said when asked to choose between sharing a drink with Mayweather and Nurmagomedov. “I drink Proper No. Twelve with those close to me.
“My friends and family and those I grew up with, that is whom I like to sit and have a glass of Proper whiskey with.
“I also love to enjoy it with customers and consumers in bars.
“That has been even more fun than I expected.”
McGregor is currently serving a temporary suspension for his actions in the brawl which followed his loss to Nurmagomedov.
Both men are facing disciplinary action from the Nevada State Athletic Commission and are scheduled to attend a hearing on December 10.
McGregor and Nurmagomedov's team-mates Abubakar Nurmagomedov, Zubaira Tukhugov and Dillon Danis were also issued temporary suspensions, which were extended on Wednesday afternoon.
And until the pair learn their fates for their respective parts in the unsavoury melee, the UFC brass won’t make any decision on what’s next for the lightweight division.
"We're on the Nevada State Athletic Commission's time now," White told Express Sport during the UFC 230 post-fight press conference.
"We're waiting until November... or December. Whenever that thing is.
"And when that thing plays out, then we'll know where we sit and then we'll know what's next."
He added: "Conor and I talked for an hour last week. And typical Conor. 'I would love an immediate rematch, I want to fight him again.
"'But I'll fight whoever I got to fight to get back to him if that's not the case.'"
