The opening two sets were extremely tight with Federer only able to break once in each.
But as soon as the third set started the world No 2 cranked through the gears to wrap up the match in 89 minutes.
“I think I played very well again,” Federer said.
“I felt good out there, less nerves than the first round which is normal too.
“I am happy with how I’m hitting the ball and good concentration too.
“He can play very well on the grass and he has won a fair few games recently so I knew I had to put him to bed.
“I think you only play as good as your opponent allows.
“It is important to be happy out there. Play as though you’re having fun and sometimes play the percentages but I like to mix it up as much as possible.”
Federer won his opening match in straight sets
