Rafael Nadal dismisses Wimbledon claim after beating Dudi Sela
RAFAEL NADAL has dismissed questions that he does not have a tough game just because he wraps up the win in straight sets.
Nadal beat Dudi Sela 6-3, 6-3, 6-2 to get his Wimbledon campaign off to a winning start.
The world No 2 is expected to be Roger Federer’s toughest challenger at the All England Club and the two stars can meet in the final after being drawn in opposite halves.
But Nadal says even if he wins every set en route to his Swiss rival it does not mean he has had an easy ride.
“I answer these questions all the time and even at Roland Garros because I win in straight sets,” he said.
I prefer to win in straight sets than to win in five
“I prefer to win in straight sets than to win in five.
“It is not worse that I don’t have tough matches. Every win is good for confidence.”
Nadal was happy with his display as he dominated on serve for the two first sets.
But during the third set the Spaniard was broken in the opening game and was forced to rally to comeback.
“I think I went to the net a couple of times,” Nadal said.
“When I had a chance with the forehand I took advantage of the points.
“Later in the third set I served a little bit worse but overall I served well
“The first round is not easy especially having not played any grass so far.”
