BORIS BECKER has stuck up for Roger Federer after criticism from Ion Tiriac.

Federer’s decision to skip the entire clay-court season for a second year in a row has come under fire.
Federer used this time last year to help recover and then build towards winning Wimbledon.
And after winning the Australian Open for a second year in a row he is hoping to win in SW19 again.
He played in America, losing to Juan Martin del Potro in the final at Indian Wells before losing in the first round of the Miami Open days later.
And Tiriac - the 1970 French Open champion - has accused the Swiss superstar of disrespecting the ATP Tour for his decision.

But Becker said: “In principle, Tiriac is right when he says that players are not allowed to chose where to play and where to not.
“But Federer is in another league. He is the best ever. He is an unbelievable tennis player.
“He did all right, and now that he has chosen to skip the clay-court season should be understood.”

Federer watched on as Rafael Nadal defended his ranking points by winning in both Monte Carlo and Barcelona.
