Kyle Edmund rant revealed: Exactly what FUMING Brit said to Australian Open umpire
KYLE EDMUND spent almost five minutes arguing with the umpire of his Australian Open semi-final after Marin Cilic was awarded a point.
Kyle Edmund was furious at the decision to award Marin Cilic the point
Edmund was already training the match after losing the first set 6-2 and had spent time off the court receiving medical treatment.
The Brit was not moving well but was holding his own in the second set when Cilic challenged a serve that was called wide at 2-2.
The Hawkeye replay showed that the ball had hit the line and umpire John Blom award Cilic the point, a decision that left Edmund with his arms outstretched in anger on the baseline.
Edmund felt he had not committed to the return and he had been hindered by the line-judge’s call of “out”.
Kyle Edmund confronted umpire John Blom and called for the referee
But Grand Slam semi-final first-timer was told there was “no way” he had been affected by the call and felt he had repeatedly been on the wrong end of Blom’s decisions.
“The amount of times I’ve said that and you’ve gone ‘no I have to give him the benefit of the doubt’,” Edmund argued.
“Of course it affected me. Get the referee, that’s rubbish. Get the referee, I’m not having that.
“If the call was coming when I hit the ball, it’s hindrance. Every time it works like that.
Kyle Edmund refused to give up his point until he had spoken to the referee
“Why is it different now?
“The call came as I was hitting it.”
Another official arrived on court soon after the confrontation began and explained to Edmund that this was not an argument he was ever going to win.
Eventually, the 23-year-old returned to the baseline and won the very next point, smashing a forehand return back at the feet of his opponent with frustration, although he could not manage a break of serve.
