The world No 1 is struggling with an ankle injury and she lost the first three games of the match.
But Halep roared back to win the next nine games in a row on her way to a 6-3 6-2 victory.
The Romanian will meet Angelique Kerber in Thursday's semi-final but before that she revealed she would relax watching Federer, who takes on Tomas Berdych today.
On her plans for the next 18 hours, Halep said: "Chilling, doing nothing. I will be in my room watching tennis.

"I will watch Roger again. A little bit of treatment. I had already, I will have again. So boring.
"Tomorrow, it's a nice match and will be a nice day."
Kerber thrashed Madison Keys 6-1 6-2 in 51 minutes to move into the last four but Halep goes into the match having played her best tennis of the tournament.
She added: "I think was a great match. The best this tournament. I started slow a little bit then I got used to the rhythm. I got used to everything. I played very well.
"It will be a different challenge against Angelique Kerber. I have to be ready, be calm and try to dominate the match.
"I'm not thinking about the result. I just want to play my best."
