Roger Federer makes serene progress into second round with masterful victory
ROGER FEDERER got his Wimbledon campaign up and running with a masterful display on the No.1 Court.
The Swiss maestro prevailed in three sets against Paolo Lorenzi - 6-1, 6-1, 6-3.
It was one way traffic from the off and Federer was typically dominant at the net, converting more than 70 per cent of his volleys.
It was a typically graceful performance and when he needed to move through the gears, he did so.
Lorenzi appeared to be in awe as Federer broke with will.
The second set failed to change the tide in his favour and Federer seemed to be toying with his opponent at times.
The eighth game of the second set contained eight deuces, with Lorenzi seemingly delaying the inevitable.
Federer wrapped up the match with an ace that Lorenzi challenged, but lost it.
