31-year-old Serena Williams is oldest ever female number one
SERENA WILLIAMS has been confirmed as the oldest woman to become world No1.
American Williams returned to the top spot after almost two and a half years.
At 31, she eclipses the previous record set by Chris Evert, who was 30 years and 11 months when she held the position in 1985.
Williams’ win over Petra Kvitova at the Qatar Open on Friday meant she replaced Victoria Azarenka.
