Jannik Sinner responds to whether he will allow Nick Kyrgios interview after doping row

Jannik Sinner admitted “It’s going to be different” to be interviewed by Nick Kyrgios at the US Open after the Aussie repeated his criticism of the Italian’s doping case.

The world No.1 escaped a ban despite twice testing positive to a banned substance earlier this month.

The former Wimbledon finalist called the judgement “ridiculous” on social media and insisted that he is “fighting for “a level playing field for everyone.”

He added “I’m definitely not gonna be warm and hospitable like I was” towards the Italian.

Kyrgios is working for ESPN in New York - and as a courtside interviewer at the US Open.

Asked how he would feel being interviewed by the Aussie after a match, Sinner said: “I don't want to respond to what he said. Everyone is free to say everything, so it's okay. If that is the case, let's see. It's going to be different, for sure.

Maybe I say something now, and then the reaction is going to be something else because you live in this moment. But, no, I'm always quite relaxed. I'm someone who forgets quite fast. Everyone is quite free to say everything, so it is what it is.”

Sinner reached the third round by beating American Alex Michelson 6-4 6-0 6-2.

Fellow orld No.1 Iga Swiatek needed only 65 minutes to beat Japanese qualifier Ena Shibahara 6-0 6-1.

Wimbledon finalist Jasmine Paolini reached the US Open third round for the third time when former world No.1 Karolina Pliskova retired after only three points.

“I think it is so sad,” said the Italian. “It is bad to leave the court like that. I don’t know what to say. I didn’t play a match. It is not good for tennis. I hope she recovers and we see her back on court soon.”
