Fabio Fognini gives Rafael Nadal verdict ahead of Monte Carlo Masters semi-finals
FABIO FOGNINI has given his verdict on Rafael Nadal ahead of their Monte Carlo Masters semi-final.
Fognini came from a set down to beat Borna Coric in his quarter-final clash, while Nadal knocked out Guido Pella.
The Italian has also beaten Nadal twice on the red dirt - albeit those victories came four years ago.
Fognini will know he has enough weapons in his armoury to challenge the world No 2.
But he thinks it will be difficult to get the better of the King of Clay, regardless of the surface.
“Everywhere is difficult with him,” Fognini said.
“I will try to enjoy this match and recover the best I can. Eat well. Sleep well.
“Tomorrow is another day and I know it is difficult but I have the game to play against him.
“He is the favourite but I will try.”
Fognini believes he was lucky to beat No 9 seed Coric.
But he will do everything he can to reach his first Maiden 1000 final after battling for such a glorious opportunity.
"I think I was a little bit lucky," he added.
"I’m happy because I’m playing my second semi-final here.
“Happy because of course I’ve tried to do my best all week and now it’s time to play with a really good player.
“Rafa is the King of Clay so it will be very difficult.”
Nadal vs Fognini is third on centre court so is expected to get underway about 2.30pm (BST).
