Novak Djokovic: John Isner reveals Miami Open worries after Kyle Edmund win
JOHN ISNER is not confident of beating Novak Djokovic should the pair meet in the Miami Open quarter-finals.
Miami Open: John Isner discusses Djokovic after Edmund win
Isner defeated British No 1 Kyle Edmund in straight sets this evening to progress to the quarter-finals.
The American will face the winner of Djokovic vs Roberto Bautista Agut in the last eight.
However, Isner thinks it is unlikely that he will defend his Miami Open title.
He was quizzed on the possibility of taking on world No 1 Djokovic later this week but he played down his own chances.
“I am very happy with where I am right now,” Isner said.
“This year is not about trying to defend this title.
“I said before the tournament started, the chances are I’ not going to defend this title.
“I have only won one Masters series in my whole career.
“I am just trying to play well and create momentum for the rest of 2019.
“To be in the quarter-finals here, I think I have done that.”
Djokovic must first try to find a way past world No 25 Bautista Agut.
And he is feeling comfortably on the new Hard Rock Stadium centre court.
“Here, because of the big football stadium, it feels like you're playing kind of an indoor match,” he said.
“You don't really feel much wind on the court. There is no sun after 1pm on the centre court. It's great for tennis.
“I think also the absence of sun and wind make the conditions slightly slower, as well.
“It's not as easy to hit through the court. You got to work a bit more for your points.”
