Nick Kyrgios pulls Roger Federer serve stunt before Miami Open match
NICK KYRGIOS has been caught imitating Roger Federer’s serve prior to his match against Borna Coric.
Miami Open: Kyrgios performs incredible underarm serve
Kyrgios plays Coric in the fourth round of the Miami Open and all eyes were on the Australian after a controversial match against Dusan Lajovic on Sunday.
The 23-year-old hit two underarm serves and won the point on both occasions.
He was also embroiled in a row with a spectator, who was eventually removed from the crowd.
And in the warm-up before his match against Coric, eagle-eyed Amazon Prime analyst Nick Lester saw Kyrgios copying Federer’s serve.
“He’s warming up his serve,” he said.
“He’s also warming up his impressions.
“Because I think that was a Federer serve there.
“So just sit back and get ready for this one.”
It is not the first time Kyrgios has imitated a serve, let alone Federer’s.
At the US Open last September, Kyrgios produced Federer’s serve AGAINST him.
Kyrgios would go on to lose the match in convincing fashion 6-4 6-1 7-5.
And Federer said he knew straight what Kyrgios had done.
Nick Kyrgios plays STUNNING shot against Coric
He said: “Well, doesn’t matter if it’s a Grand Slam match or a first round of any other 250 tournament or any place. We have all imitated serves.
“Sure, it’s unusual to happen against you with your own serve.
“Yes, of course, I knew right away when he imitates my serve, and I have seen him doing it several times over the last few months.
“Also that he’s been using my serve sometimes to great effect, which I’m very happy to see. It’s a technique that worked. No, I’m joking.
“It’s good fun. Look, I take it like just as it is. I think in Stuttgart, maybe or some other place, he warmed up against me only hitting my serves. I know it’s about warming up the shoulder.”
