Roger Federer threatens to fire back at Alexander Zverev with post THIS afternoon
ROGER FEDERER has threatened to fire back at Alexander Zverev with a social media post of his own this afternoon.
A strange tradition has started among tennis stars this season as they post photographs of themselves with animals.
Federer unknowingly started the games when he took a selfie with a lobster in Perth ahead of the Hopman Cup.
Zverev upped the ante by posting a photograph alongside a rare Australian quokka and captioned it with: “#MineisBetterThanRogers”.
And Federer now wants to go one better after meeting two quokkas on the Lock Ness Island during a rest day yesterday.
“We went over there again, three for three in three years,” Federer said.
“It was nice to be over there and believe it or not there was a quokka there, no joke, as I arrived.
“That was not the same one [as last year], I think it was their sister.
“For lunch it was like perfectly orchestrated again, there was a quokka under the table.
“I will share the photo on social media later.
“It was very cute, the kids had a blast and the people were very nice. They gave us some privacy too.
“Thanks everyone who was there.”
Following a day off with his family, Federer returned to action with a straight-sets victory against Stefanos Tsitsipas this morning.
The 37-year-old will be back on court alongside Switzerland team-mate Belinda Bencic this afternoon against Tsitsipas and Maria Sakkari.
And Federer has moved to hail his fellow countrywoman ahead of their mixed doubles outing.
“I really enjoy watching her play, she takes the ball super early,” he said.
“She has got a better backhand return than I do.
“I look at it as in admiration how she is able to clock it every single time and I hope we see some of that in the singles and some of it in the mix.
“I have really enjoyed the Hopman Cup, this competition and this format.
“I tried everything I could and I hope you guys enjoyed it too.”
