Roger Federer: Belinda Bencic makes AWKWARD comment about Switzerland team-mate
BELINDA BENCIC made Roger Federer go red-faced with an awkward comment about her Switzerland team-mate.
Federer and Bencic have guided their country to top place in Group B of the Hopman Cup this week with victories over Great Britain and the USA.
The pair are gearing up for a final-deciding showdown with Greece this morning (9.30am).
However, after their recent clash with the USA, in which Federer faced off against fellow great Serena Williams for the first time in a mixed doubles match, Bencic dug herself into a deep hole while discussing her team-mate.
Bench said: “It was very difficult but I am very happy — Roger motivated me in the locker room.”
And the on-court interviewer asked: “I hope you’re not sharing locker rooms.”
Bench quickly tried to recover from the slip-up.
“No! Not in the locker room, in the gym,” she said.
“In front of the locker room.”
Federer then jumped in to clear his name of any funny business.
“Just to be very, very clear here,” he said.
But Bencic was able to laugh off the incident.
“This cannot get any worse,” she chuckled.
Meanwhile, Williams could not speak highly enough of Federer, despite her nation losing the tie 2-1.
"It was so fun," she told the crowd.
"We grew up together, really, and, after all these years, we've actually never done this and so this was super cool that we got to do this at such a pinnacle point in both our careers.
“I literally wanted to take pictures and bring my baby out … I was way too excited!"
