Roger Federer opponent Marius Copil accused of THIS during Swiss Indoors final
SKY SPORTS commentator Barry Cowan has accused Marius Copil of making a 'cop-out' decision during the Swiss Indoors final.
Swiss Indoors: Roger Federer defeats Copil in 2018 final
The world No93 of Romania was in just his second ATP final after beating second seed Alexander Zverev in the semis.
That ensured a final match-up with Roger Federer for the first time ever in his career.
Things got off to a good start for the 28-year-old, who broke Federer in the third game of the match.
The 20-time Grand Slam champion hit back to take it into a first-set tie-break, which he lost 7-5.
If you play the drop-shot as a cop-out, you lose the point more or less every time
The crucial mini-break came on his own serve when he attempted an ambitious drop shot that hit the net.
For Cowan, the decision was all wrong and he has accused the Romanian of being a 'cop-out' for trying to end the rally early.
"The question I always ask when you are watching a match - and when you are playing someone who hits a drop-shot - is 'is it the right play in terms of the opponent's court position?'" he said.
"If you're a long way back, it's the right play.
"If, on an important point you're playing someone like Federer whose court position is on the baseline, more often than not it's a cop-out.
"If you play the drop-shot as a cop-out, you lose the point more or less every time."
However, Copil broke early in the second set to get himself back into the game.
Federer is hunting a record 99th ATP title and a record ninth in his hometown of Basel.
