Roger Federer opponent Marius Copil sends defiant message ahead of Swiss Indoors final
MARIUS COPIL posted a defiant Twitter message ahead of the Swiss Indoors with Roger Federer.
The World No. 93 beat second-seed Alexander Zverev 6-3 6-7 6-4 in the semis on Saturday to move into the final.
There he will meet 20-time Grand Slam champion and Basel home favourite Federer, who overcame Daniil Medvedev 6-1 6-4.
If Federer wins Sunday's final it will be his 99th Tour-level title.
But Copil appears to have no fears ahead of the second ATP final of his career.
He tweeted: "What a match today with #Zverev. I can't wait for tomorrow's final against #Federer."
The Romanian, 28, served 26 aces in his victory over world No. 5 Zverev.
Defending champion Federer, an eight-time champion in Basel, needed just 64 minutes to wrap up the win.
The two have never played one another before.
Federer now has a 14-1 record in Basel semi-finals, including 11 straight wins since David Nalbandian beat him in 2002.
He has now reached the Basel final in each of his last 11 appearances.
