British & Irish Lions: Owen Farrell delivers rallying cry ahead of New Zealand tour
OWEN FARRELL has declared that the Lions will fly out to New Zealand today convinced they can deliver a huge upset and beat the world champions in their own backyard.
Owen Farrell is confident the Lions can cause an upset in New Zealand
Farrell, who was part of the 2013 squad which won in Australia, insisted that the setback of losing Billy Vunipola has not undermined the squad’s confidence.
“I think you have to have that belief, definitely. I don’t think anybody’s going out there just to take part, everybody’s going out there to win and that’s the way it should be,” said Farrell.
“It’s a brilliant squad that’s going out there and one full of world class players.
"If we get that right and make sure that we’re on the same page as quick as possible then I think this squad will challenge anyone.”
Steve Borthwick is happy with Ken Owens' progress
Wales hooker Ken Owens has been declared fit for the tour despite missing the Scarlets’ Pro 12 triumph with an ankle injury. He is unlikely to be considered for Saturday’s opening game against New Zealand Barbarians however.
“He did a lot of work last week which was really good. He’s in camp this week and he’s developing really well,” said Lions assistant coach Steve Borthwick.
“Ken’s done well, worked incredibly diligently with his rehabilitation and he’s in good condition.
“The latest report is he is progressing well and in Rory Best and Jamie George, we’ve got two fully fit hookers.”
