The talented fly-half has found joy playing at inside centre for England under Eddie Jones and has also been impressive from the kicking tee.
However, his participation in England's crucial Six Nations game against Scotland at Twickenham on Saturday (4pm) is now in jeopardy after he left a training session early.
Farrell was this morning named in the starting XV at 12 despite speculation that he might move to fly-half, a switch that would see George Ford drop to the bench.
The Saracens back had been in line to win his 51st cap and help England take their penultimate step towards back-to-back Grand Slams.

But he received treatment of the pitch from both the physio and the doctor who both showed concern, although Farrell himself did not look in too much visibly discomfort.
England will not train on Thursday afternoon but have a session scheduled for tomorrow in which coach Eddie Jones said he would probably take part, although the Australian was tight-lipped over the exact nature of the injury.
"He’s in doubt but we'll see," Jones said.

"He’s just run into someone at training - it's as simple as that.
"He should be alright."
Jones even joked that Farrell might have tripped over his dog Annie - "a tricky runner" - who has recently been seen running around at training.
However, the coach was 57-year-old was adamant that even if his star centre is ruled out, England have plenty of depth in the kicking department.
"We've got some great kickers - George Ford," Jones added.
"But Owen will be alright."
