Sacked Mike Tindall to appeal against 'brutal' fine
MIKE TINDALL will appeal against his record £25,000 fine after his England career ended in disgrace with his ejection from the squad for his World Cup bar-room incidents in New Zealand.
The decision, announced by RFU professional rugby director Rob Andrew, is in stark contrast to England manager Martin Johnson’s inaction at the time. The Rugby Players’ Association described the fine “extraordinary”.
Former England coach Dick Best said: "It's severe, brutal in fact. It's unprecedented the amount of money involved and that he has been booted out of the squad which leads to a further amount of financial burden.
“It’s a sad way to see the end of an 11-year career. There’s more to it than meets the eye, otherwise they would not have lumped a £25,000fine on him.” The full version of events that night has yet to emerge, according to informed sources.
Tindall was chosen for Gloucester’s Heineken Cup tie in Toulouse tomorrow.
