Reading thrash Surbiton to lift England Cup
TWO goals from Great Britain striker Tom Carson ensured Reading ended the season on a high after trouncing Surbiton 5-1 to lift the England Cup at the Olympic Park.
Reading defeated Surbiton 5-1 to lift the England Cup
Reading haven’t won the cup in six years and were determined to make up for missing out on the league play-offs.
They went behind, however, to a Will Calnan goal in the fifth minute but Surbiton, without the premier division’s leading scorer Matt Daly, missed out on four penalty corners.
Reading converted three out of five, Carson levelling in the 20th minute, Richard Mantell in the 28th followed by John Jackson, pouncing on another Mantell corner.
Alan Forsyth then had a penalty stroke saved by Reading goalkeeper Tommy Alexander before Carson struck another corner.

Peter Scott finished the demolition with a fine run and backhand shot eight minutes from time.
Reading captain Chris Newman said: “We never expected that sort of performance and result.
“It has been a challenging year and we are absolutely chuffed. Our young players have really stepped up.
“We have a really good chance next year in what is going to be an interesting league.”
