Snooker: First for Reanne Evans
REANNE EVANS has become the first woman in history to reach a major tournament.
Evans, 27, has won the ladies title nine times in a row.
But she failed to win any match in a ranking event after being handed a tour wild card alongside the men for the 2010-11 season.
However, she took full advantage of a ‘lucky loser’ spot in the season-opening Wuxi Classic to overcome Thailand’s Thepchaiya-Un-Nooh 5-4 at the Capital Venue in Gloucester.
In doing so, she booked her place in the last 64 of the draw in China next month, when she will play world No2 Neil Robertson.
She said: “It’s the best result of my career so far. Hopefully this will show other women what can be done in snooker.”
