Snooker: Steve Davis turns back clock
VETERAN Steve Davis reached the last 16 of an event he last won 17 years ago, with a 4-3 win over world No11 Ali Carter at the Welsh Open in Newport.
Six-time world champion Davis, 54, made breaks of 121 and 63 and, then, 117 in the decider. Now the world No43, he was DJ-ing on the radio back in Essex last night.
“Ali Carter is probably the highest-ranked player I have beaten since John Higgins during the 2010 world championships,” said Davis.
