Mark Cavendish defends come-back
MARK CAVENDISH yesterday bounced back from finishing an exhausted last on stage 10 of the Tour of Italy to a brilliant first on stage 11 in Teramo.
He then hit out at accusations from Spain’s Francisco Ventoso that he received illegal tows from team vehicles on the Etna stage.
Cavendish said: “If I crash, change my bike or stop for a pee, I’ve not just got them [officials] watching me, there’s a TV camera, a marching band and an ice cream van watching, too.
“If it’s possible for me to cheat, then I’m David Copperfield.”
